Assessment

Evaluation throughout the programme, from coursework performance to the final thesis presentation.

Assessment in MHPC is based on course performance, completion of assignments, project development and final thesis evaluation. The assessment model is designed to reflect both the academic rigour of the coursework and the practical, project-based nature of the programme. It gives students a clear framework for progression and helps communicate the programme’s level of commitment and quality.

Each course is evaluated by the lecturer using a grading scale from 18 to 30. Eighteen out of thirty is the minimum passing grade, twenty-seven corresponds to the successful completion of all assignments, and thirty indicates outstanding work. If a course is not passed, the result is recorded as FAIL.

To be admitted to the evaluation process for a course, students must attend at least 70% of the lectures and complete the assigned exercises within the deadlines established by the lecturer. Active participation and steady work throughout the programme are therefore essential parts of the evaluation model.

To continue to the second phase of the programme, students must obtain an average grade of at least 21/30 in the first part of the coursework. Students who fail two courses within a teaching phase may have their enrolment reconsidered by the programme’s scientific council.

The final exam consists of the development and presentation of an HPC-centred project carried out under the supervision of a qualified adviser. Students are evaluated on their ability to design, implement and assess advanced computational solutions, as well as on the quality and clarity of the written thesis and oral presentation.

Each year the MHPC programme awards a prize for the best thesis developed during the final project phase. The award includes a special diploma and financial support to attend an international HPC conference such as Supercomputing or the International Supercomputing Conference, with support for conference-related expenses up to €1,500.
