Student life in MHPC is shaped by the programme’s small cohort size, its strong international profile and the scientific ecosystem of Trieste. Beyond coursework, participants experience a year of close interaction with instructors, peers, researchers and visiting scientists, in a context where scientific exchange extends well beyond the classroom. This is an important part of the programme for students who are looking not only for technical training, but also for a stimulating academic community.
Each edition of the MHPC admits approximately 10–15 students. The small cohort size encourages direct interaction with lecturers, close supervision and a highly collaborative atmosphere. Students learn not only from instructors, but also from each other, through a constant exchange between different disciplinary backgrounds and computational approaches.
Trieste is an international city of science, home to a dense network of universities, research centres and scientific infrastructures. Studying here means being part of a wider academic and research environment that offers opportunities for seminars, public lectures, workshops and professional connections throughout the year.
The MHPC experience is enriched by seminars, scientific events and informal interactions with researchers from SISSA, ICTP and other institutions. Participants can attend lectures by internationally recognised scientists, engage in discussions with visiting researchers and expand their professional networks in a uniquely international setting.
Because the programme is closely embedded in an active research environment, students are exposed early on to ongoing scientific projects, computational methods and emerging research topics. This constant contact with the research ecosystem helps participants better understand how HPC is used in real scientific and technological contexts.
The official headquarter of the master is at first floor of the so called “Old SISSA building” at the Miramare Campus (via Beirut 2-4, Trieste). Occasionally, some lectures can be held at the SISSA Main building (via Bonomea 265, Trieste) and other rooms of ICTP (Strada Costiera 11, Trieste). All courses are scheduled to be conducted in presence.
